Aesop's (oh so slightly) Updated Fables by Kim Esop-Wylie
This short play (45 mins) is about six of Aesop's most famous fables
Dog and the Bone
A dog with a bone, sees his reflection in a pond and thinks it's a bigger dog with a bigger bone. He snaps at the reflection's bone and loses his own.
Tortoise and the Hare
A hare challenges a tortoise to a race. The prideful hare takes a nap during the race, believing the tortoise is too slow to catch up. The tortoise passes the hare while he's taking his nap and wins the race.
Lion and the Mouse
A mouse is caught by a lion and begs not to be eaten. The lion lets the mouse go and the mouse is grateful. The lion is later captured, and the mouse comes to help the lion escape.
Fox and the grapes
A greedy fox try's jumping to reach high hanging grapes. The fox continues to try but fails. Defeated, he walks away convinced they were sour anyway.
The Miller, His Son, and the Donkey
A Miller and his son are taking their donkey with them to the market. On their way, passerby's are displeased with how they are traveling. The Miller is trying to please everyone along the way but makes a fool of himself in the end.
The Country Maid
A country maid looking at the eggs her chickens have laid and decides to sell them. She's daydreaming about future profits and all the things she could buy, when she drops the eggs and breaks them.
This show is wonderful for young audiences because of its cautionary tales, wise words, and silly story telling.
